Wigeon

Since the mid 1990s Wigeons have bred almost regularly on Eskilsø, in very small numbers. They have also appeared occasionally on Øksneholm and once on Jyllinge Holme. Since the mid 1980s the October population has been increasing rapidly and in 2002 it topped 7,000. There is extreme variation in the January population from year to year, but it has never amounted to more than 800 birds. The main Wigeon roosting sites are Bløden by Risø, Eskilsø, Selsø, Øksneholm and Skomagerkrogen in Roskilde Vig.
