Golden Plover

During the autumn migration from the Scandinavian breeding grounds a number of Golden Plover roost on the fjord. Their favourite place is Bløden, by Risø, but there is a good chance of seeing them in other places where there are mud flats (in September and October). You might also see them in newly ploughed fields in the countryside around the fjord. Golden Plovers forage in the fields not only by day but also in the lighter nights around full moon. Although there is great variation in the numbers from year to year, the overall trend is upwards.
