Migrating Birds of Prey
Buzzard migration over Jyllinge Holme.
Although the fjord is not a major migration stopover site it is often possible to see the migration of birds of prey. The fjord is an obstacle that has to be negotiated and so the birds often fly along the fjord until they find a suitable place to cross it, e.g. at Jyllinge Holme and Eskilsø. You are most likely to see Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) and Honey Buzzard (Pernis apivorus) but a number of other species pass through the region. On good migration days there are several places where you can count over a thousand birds of prey flying along or over the fjord.

In September there are often Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) roosting on Kattinge Lake, where you can see them nosedive after fish and then sit on a pound net, or some similar perch, to devour their prey.
